Inspired by the possibilities showcased by Cyberpunk 2077, IGN Japan has compiled a list of games they hope to see ported to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Considering it’s a game from the PS4 generation, a port should be feasible. The question isn’t so much about technical possibility, but rather Rockstar’s level of interest. The massive open world and intricate details would undoubtedly be a draw for Switch 2 owners.
According to a report from GameReactor, 本作将在年内移植到 Switch 2 平台,并升级到次世代主机,但目前尚不清楚具体细节。 While unconfirmed, such a port would represent a significant win for the platform and its audience.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
The hope is that Nintendo Switch 2 players can also experience Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, a title acclaimed as a pioneering work in the design philosophy of continuous parrying. The fast-paced combat and precise timing of the game could offer a challenging yet rewarding experience on the Switch 2.
Shenmue III
It’s been nearly six years since the release of the third installment in the Shenmue series. A port to the Nintendo Switch 2 is entirely plausible, especially given that the developer has been gauging interest in a potential port through user surveys specifically targeting Shenmue III. This suggests a positive outlook and willingness to explore the possibility.
Ghostwire: Tokyo
The setting of Ghostwire: Tokyo, confined to nighttime environments, along with its incredible level of detail, evokes memories of Cyberpunk 2077. With Cyberpunk 2077 having established a benchmark for ports on the Switch 2, the hope is that Ghostwire: Tokyo can follow suit. However, the demanding graphical fidelity might require significant optimization.
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Capcom has been on a strong trajectory in recent years. The remakes of the Resident Evil series, in particular, have consistently earned nominations for game of the year awards. Many are eagerly anticipating the chance to experience Resident Evil 4 running natively on the Switch 2. The Switch has seen success with cloud versions, but a native port would be a major achievement.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
With Sega already releasing Like a Dragon 0: Director’s Cut as a Switch 2 title, the prospect of the franchise’s latest installment, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 is undoubtedly appealing to many. The blend of RPG elements and engaging narrative aligns well with the Switch audience.
Rise of the Ronin
This game allows you to freely explore Japan during the late Edo period. As an open-world game starring a samurai, its visual effects may not be as breathtaking as Ghost of Tsushima or Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but precisely because of this, the Switch 2 might be capable of achieving similar visual fidelity compared to other platforms. This makes it a more realistic candidate for a successful port.
Silent Hill 2 Remake
The 2024 release of the Silent Hill 2 Remake has exceeded expectations. While Konami has released numerous remasters and collections of older games for Switch 1, high-end titles like Metal Gear Solid V and eFootball are less common. This situation may change with the introduction of the Switch 2, potentially opening the door for more graphically intensive titles.
Metaphor: Refantazio
Atlus’s Metaphor: Refantazio is one of the most anticipated RPGs of 2024. The company’s other RPG series, such as Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, have already achieved considerable popularity on Switch 1. Given the existence of a PS4 version, porting Metaphor: Refantazio to the Switch 2 should be a relatively straightforward process.
Project LLL
It’s no exaggeration to say that Project LLL is currently a strong contender for the 2025 Game of the Year award. Previously, games of this caliber had little chance of being ported to a Nintendo platform, aside from some smaller indie titles. However, with the Switch 2 already capable of running high-end games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Street Fighter 6, there’s no reason to dismiss the possibility! This inclusion demonstrates the ambition of the Switch 2 platform.
