On June 30th, according to Kuaitech, Li Nan, a former executive at Meizu, posted today, stating that due to the enforced control of inflation on daily necessities, Chinese people are eating too well.
He expressed concern, saying, “I dare not imagine what the incidence of ‘three highs’ (hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia) and cardiovascular diseases will reach if GDP continues to rise. And we are too fond of mobile phones and air conditioning.”
According to Li Nan’s perspective, people seemingly prefer to stay at home enjoying air conditioning, hot pot, and mobile phones, while in terms of clothing and entertainment, the situation appears somewhat dire.
This sentiment has sparked considerable debate among netizens. Many have pointed out that activities like going out for shopping and entertainment often require weekend availability, and that the majority of Chinese workers likely do not have a standard two-day weekend.
One netizen commented directly: “Dietary intake has become abundant, but it hasn’t reached a healthy stage yet. High oil, high salt, high sugar, high calories – when will all these ubiquitous junk drink shops go out of business? That would signify another step forward. Looking at many northern provinces, daily meals are extremely high in carbohydrates. If the national meat consumption reaches the level of the southern regions, it’s hard to say whether people will become fatter or more inclined to stay home.”
