On July 28th, according to a report from Kuaitech, Tesla executives revealed significant information regarding the highly anticipated Roadster project at the “X Takeover” event held in California, confirming previous speculations based on Elon Musk’s social media posts.
Musk had previously shared that he attended a meeting at Tesla’s design studio in Hawthorne, California, which is adjacent to SpaceX headquarters. He also hinted at an “extremely mind-blowing demonstration” scheduled for late 2025, without specifying the project involved.

Lars Moravy, Tesla’s Senior Vice President of Powertrain, confirmed widespread conjectures at the event, explicitly stating that the Roadster project is indeed under development. He remarked, “The Roadster is definitely in development. We were discussing it last Sunday night and are preparing for a super cool demonstration. It’s going to be mind-blowing. We showed Elon some of the tech we’re working on last week, and he was quite excited about it.”

The Roadster project has endured an extended development cycle and faced multiple delays. Tesla has previously attributed these postponements to factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the company’s current focus on projects that benefit humanity.

Despite these setbacks, many consumers have been eagerly awaiting this model. Some secured their purchase eligibility through Tesla’s referral program, while others have already placed a deposit of $50,000 (approximately ¥358,000 RMB).

It is reported that Tesla plans to equip the Roadster with highly advanced technologies, including a “hover” capability developed in collaboration with SpaceX, and high-performance configurations capable of 0-60 mph acceleration in a mere 1.1 seconds. Based on current indications, these technological advancements are likely to be the core components of the “mind-blowing demonstration” mentioned by Musk last week. The prolonged gestation period of the Roadster highlights the ambitious nature of the project, aiming to redefine automotive performance, and the confirmation of its ongoing development and a spectacular upcoming demonstration suggests that Tesla is committed to delivering on its promise, albeit with significant delays that have tested consumer patience.
