Introduction: Commercial Processors Are Not Simple Either
Therefore, when purchasing a computer, it is important to not only meet the needs of text-based office work but also to enhance creative efficiency.
The AMD Ryzen 5 8600G and Intel Core i5-14500 processors are currently widely used in cost-effective OEM commercial machines. They are outstanding representatives. So, which of these two processors can better meet the needs of modern office work!
We have a Lenovo Qitian M550 commercial host equipped with a Ryzen 5 8600G processor and a host equipped with a Core i5-14500.
The processor power consumption of both hosts is set at 65W. Let’s see which one performs better in office-related tasks.

Looking at the specifications alone, the i5-14500 has a comprehensive advantage over the Ryzen 5 8600G. The former has 6 Performance-cores + 8 Efficient-cores, totaling 14 cores and 20 threads, while the Ryzen 5 8600G has 6 cores and 12 threads.
However, an equally important point that should not be overlooked is the difference in their manufacturing processes.
The i5-14500 uses Intel 7 process technology, which is actually 10nm. The Ryzen 5 8600G uses TSMC’s 4nm process, a difference of more than two generations.
A more advanced manufacturing process can lead to higher energy efficiency! Although both have a 65W TDP, the base frequencies are vastly different.
The base frequency of the i5-14500 is only 2.6GHz, while the Ryzen 5 8600G reaches 4.3GHz, which is 65% higher.
The base frequency generally refers to the frequency a processor can achieve when running at full core load under its default TDP. Therefore, when running at full load within a 65W power envelope, the multi-core performance of the Ryzen 5 8600G may not necessarily be inferior to that of the i5-14500.
With an increasing number of productivity applications supporting GPU acceleration, integrated graphics performance is also crucial.
The Ryzen 5 8600G features an integrated Radeon 760M GPU, based on RDNA 3 architecture. It has 8 Compute Units, totaling 512 stream processors, with a core clock speed of 2800MHz.
The i5-14500 uses Intel UHD 770 GPU, which has 32 Execution Units. Each EU contains 8 Shader Cores, equivalent to 256 stream processors, with a core frequency of 1.55GHz.
Whether viewed from GPU frequency or stream processor scale, the two are in entirely different leagues.
