According to media reports on August 17th, at the 100-meter obstacle race of the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games, three teams from Unitree Robotics – Gao Yi Technology Team (33.71 seconds), Ling Yi Technology Team (38.46 seconds), and Unitree Technology Team (62.75 seconds) – showcased exceptional performance, clearing obstacles with remarkable agility. They dominated the event, securing the top three positions.
The 100-meter robot obstacle race is a newly introduced event that has generated considerable excitement. It challenges robots to navigate a 100-meter track featuring ten consecutive and varied obstacles.
These obstacles include a gravel path strewn with pebbles, a rugged terrain with a mix of wooden blocks and bricks, straight staircases with five steps going up and five steps going down, as well as slalom sections, continuous slopes, a balance beam, spiral stairs, hurdles, and a series of crossed and symmetrical ramps. The variety of terrains is designed to rigorously test the robots’ adaptability and dynamic control capabilities.
Each team is allotted 15 minutes to complete the race, with their final time determining their ranking. The strict time limit emphasizes efficiency and strategic planning in addition to the robots’ physical capabilities.
For this competition, all three participating entities, Gao Yi Technology, Ling Yi Technology, and Unitree Technology, utilized the Unitree G1 robot platform. This unified approach suggests a strong confidence in the G1’s design and performance, allowing for a direct comparison of their teams’ programming and strategic execution.
The Unitree Technology Team commented, “The 100-meter obstacle race primarily tests how robots adapt to diverse terrains through algorithms. I have faith in our robots, which is why we opted for a rapid completion, avoiding unnecessary time expenditure.” This statement highlights the crucial role of advanced motion planning and adaptation algorithms in overcoming such complex environmental challenges, suggesting that Unitree’s success is a testament to their sophisticated software development as much as the hardware’s physical prowess.
