According to a report from Kuaikeji on August 16th, Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s Executive Director and Chairman of the Terminal BG, engaged in a dialogue with host Chen Weihong on the development of the HarmonyOS operating system during the CCTV Finance program “Dialogue” held today.
Addressing user concerns regarding HarmonyOS application adaptation, Yu Chengdong stated that initial issues with newly released applications are typically resolved through subsequent iterations and updates. Many functionalities are being progressively rolled out, with features like WeChat’s shared location functionality expected to be available soon.
He also indicated that Huawei has an upgrade plan for its older smartphone models. Huawei’s existing user base, numbering in the hundreds of millions, will gradually be upgraded to HarmonyOS 5.0, which promises enhanced system fluidity post-upgrade. This move signifies Huawei’s commitment to its legacy users and its strategy to maintain a consistent user experience across its device ecosystem.
HarmonyOS 5 was officially unveiled in October of last year. In March of this year, the Huawei Pura X, fully equipped with HarmonyOS 5, made its debut. Subsequently, the Huawei Pura 80 series launched with HarmonyOS 5.1 pre-installed. The gradual rollout of HarmonyOS 5 to older devices is a strategic decision to leverage its improved performance and user experience, potentially boosting customer loyalty and satisfaction.
HarmonyOS 5 is reported to significantly enhance overall system fluidity, aiming to provide users with an unprecedented smooth experience. This is evident in the seamless switching between daily applications and the high-performance demands of gaming, where the OS strives for a “flowing like water” experience.
In terms of security, HarmonyOS 5 incorporates the “Star Shield” security architecture. This advanced security framework is designed to greatly reduce the risk of privacy leaks, thereby safeguarding users’ personal information and offering robust data protection. This focus on security is a critical differentiator in the competitive mobile OS market, aiming to build user trust.
