On the evening of August 21st, NIO held a technical launch event for its brand-new third-generation NIO ES8.
William Li introduced NIO’s industry-first truly comprehensive 900V high-voltage architecture, with core high-voltage components such as the motor, battery, electric control, and air conditioning all operating at over 900V. This advanced architecture represents a significant leap forward in EV technology, promising enhanced performance and efficiency.
Thanks to the 900V high-voltage architecture, the new NIO ES8 is the only production vehicle in its class capable of reaching 100 km/h in under 4 seconds, achieving a remarkable 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.97 seconds. This puts it in elite company and underscores the performance benefits of the new architecture.
The new ES8 is equipped with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system, featuring a 180 kW high-performance induction asynchronous motor at the front and a 340 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor at the rear. This powertrain combination delivers a peak torque of 700 Nm, providing robust and responsive power delivery for a dynamic driving experience.
The new ES8 comes standard with a 102 kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC range of up to 635 kilometers. Furthermore, its energy consumption is impressively low, at just 16.6 kWh per 100 kilometers, which is a leading figure in its class. The battery pack supports 4C ultra-fast charging, enabling it to gain approximately 280 kilometers of range in just ten minutes. This fast-charging capability significantly addresses range anxiety and enhances the practicality of the vehicle for long journeys.
Regarding its chassis, the new ES8 is equipped with NIO’s self-developed high-performance four-piston calipers, offering class-leading braking performance. The vehicle can achieve a minimum braking distance of just 34.9 meters from 100 km/h to a complete stop. This focus on braking efficacy enhances driver confidence and overall vehicle safety.
