AI News (TechFast) September 1st report: According to reports, the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Provincial Department of Transportation have issued the “Notice on Matters Concerning Vehicle Rescue Service Fees”.
The notice clarifies that starting from September 1, 2025, vehicle towing and crane services on expressways throughout the province will be free of charge. Upon implementation of this policy, Jiangsu will become the first province in China to offer completely free expressway vehicle towing and crane rescue services.
The new regulations in Jiangsu stipulate that free highway clearance and rescue services will follow principles of standardization, efficiency, safety, and proximity. Disabled vehicles will be towed free of charge to the nearest expressway exit or service area. Accident vehicles will be towed free of charge to locations designated by the traffic management department of the public security organ.
For accident vehicles, disabled vehicles, and their transported goods, if towing or lifting operations are deemed necessary, crane fees will be waived.
According to a clearance administrator from the Xuejiayang Maintenance Center of Jiangsu Communications Holding Ninghu Company, the previous fees for clearance and rescue services were stipulated in the “Jiangsu Provincial Expressway Clearance and Rescue Service Fee Standards” issued in 2019. The base towing fee ranged from 200 to 350 yuan per vehicle, depending on the vehicle type, with an additional operation fee of 5 to 20 yuan per kilometer based on towing distance.
Generally, towing fees ranged from three to four hundred yuan to seven to eight hundred yuan. Base crane fees ranged from 600 to 1000 yuan. After the implementation of the new policy, these services will essentially be entirely free.
Vehicle owners driving in Jiangsu can call the Jiangsu Expressway Customer Service Hotline 96777 or the expressway alarm number 12122 for assistance if their vehicle experiences a breakdown on the expressway.
