On September 7th, according to Kuaitech, the Shenyang-Dandong High-Speed Railway (Shen-Dan HSR), which connects the central part of Liaoning Province with the Liaodong Peninsula, has celebrated its tenth anniversary of operation.
The Shen-Dan HSR is located within Liaoning Province, originating in Shenyang City, passing through Benxi City, and terminating in Dandong City. It has a total length of 208 kilometers and operates at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour. The line officially commenced operations on September 1, 2015.
Following the opening of the Shen-Dan HSR, the fastest travel time between Shenyang and Dandong was reduced from 3 hours and 34 minutes to just 1 hour and 9 minutes. This development integrated Benxi and Dandong into Shenyang’s “one-hour economic circle.” Furthermore, by connecting with other high-speed lines such as the Harbin-Dalian HSR, Beijing-Harbin HSR, Changchun-Jilin Intercity Railway, and Dandong-Dalian HSR, it has established a rapid passenger transportation network that spans Liaoning, radiates throughout Northeast China, and connects to the entire nation.
As of September 1, 2025, the Shen-Dan HSR has safely transported 120 million passengers, with an average of 34,000 passengers per day.
Over the past decade, the Shen-Dan HSR has operated under an intercity and bus-like model. This approach emphasizes frequent departures and convenient accessibility, mirroring the service of a public transportation system rather than a traditional long-distance railway.
Currently, 31 pairs of high-speed EMUs operate daily, with an average of one train every 30 minutes. The shortest operational interval is a mere 5 minutes, truly embodying the concept of high-speed rail as a public bus service. Additionally, “season tickets” have been introduced to further enhance commuter convenience and affordability.
