As reported on September 23rd by Kuaitech, the highly anticipated Xiaomi 17 series is officially set to debut at Lei Jun’s annual speech on September 25th.
This launch marks an unprecedented event with the simultaneous release of three distinct models: the Xiaomi 17, the Xiaomi 17 Pro, and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
Lei Jun proactively initiated a poll on Weibo to gauge public interest in the three upcoming models. The results thus far indicate that the larger screen variant, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, is leading the pack by a considerable margin, capturing the most attention.
Following closely behind, the Xiaomi 17 Pro has secured the second position in terms of user interest.
Based on leaks and official teasers, the Xiaomi 17 is positioned as the direct successor to the Xiaomi 15, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max continues the lineage initiated by the Xiaomi 15 Pro.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro, however, appears to be a newly introduced model. It is expected to feature a compact 6.3-inch flat screen, similar to the standard Xiaomi 15/Xiaomi 17. However, it will boast fully upgraded “Pro” level specifications, with a significant enhancement in its camera capabilities.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will further build upon the foundation of its smaller “Pro” counterpart, by enhancing its imaging system and battery life, promising a more refined user experience.
Furthermore, both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will uniformly feature the “Miaoxiang” (Smart Share) rear display. This secondary screen will support various functionalities, including countdowns, call handling, music control, flight check-in information display, ride-hailing details, and self-portrait previews and operations using the rear cameras.
The rear display is not limited to mere information display; it will also facilitate rich user interaction. For instance, in the camera interface, users will not only see previews but also be able to select between video recording, still photography, and portrait modes, with options for focus and zoom adjustments, showcasing its extensive functionality.
Offering guidance on the three new devices, Lu Weibing provided purchase recommendations:
The standard Xiaomi 17 is recommended for users who prefer compact-sized devices and prioritize tactile feel.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro is suited for those who appreciate a smaller form factor, the innovative rear display, and a flagship user experience.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is ideal for users who favor larger displays, value the convenience of the rear screen, and seek the most advanced technological features.
