REDMI K90’s design has been officially unveiled, adopting a similar aesthetic to the K90 Pro Max but omitting the 2.1 stereo system for a more conventional look. This strategic design choice aims to balance premium feel with practical usability.
Despite minor design shifts, the overall craftsmanship and configuration align with high-end flagship devices. The rear panel is crafted using an integrated cold-carving process, mirroring the technology found in the iPhone 17. This meticulous process, involving 41 steps, 12 specialized tools, and three rounds of CNC precision carving, results in a more unified body that offers a smooth touch and effectively prevents dust accumulation.
This commitment to premium materials and construction suggests REDMI’s ambition to elevate its mid-range offerings to a more discerning market. The unified body not only enhances the tactile experience but also contributes to the device’s durability and ease of maintenance, a key consideration for users seeking a long-lasting smartphone.
The overall aesthetic bears a strong resemblance to the standard Xiaomi 17, particularly in its choice of a similar blue color variant. However, the REDMI K90 distinguishes itself with an upgraded screen size of 6.59 inches, leading some observers to affectionately dub it the “Xiaomi 17 Plus.” This subtle elevation in display real estate positions the K90 as a compelling option for those who appreciate a larger screen without venturing into phablet territory.

Hu Xinxin, the product manager, highlighted that the K90’s chosen 6.59-inch display strikes a harmonious balance, offering the best of both worlds: a “golden medium size.” This deliberate choice stems from extensive user research, where REDMI tested seven different prototypes ranging from 6.1 to 7.04 inches. Through in-depth interviews with hundreds of users in the 3K price segment, a clear demand for “balance” emerged.

Users expressed a desire for a device that is comfortable for single-handed operation and grip, while simultaneously providing an immersive entertainment experience. This should be coupled with high performance capabilities and a substantial battery life. The 6.59-inch screen size ultimately prevailed as the optimal choice to meet these multifaceted user requirements, indicating a thoughtful approach to user-centric design in the K90’s development.
