Rain Technology reported on June 28 that Gaode Map and Huawei Pura80 series jointly launched the full-track lane-level navigation function of ultra-long tunnels, aiming to solve common problems when driving in the tunnel, so that drivers will no longer get lost at the tunnel fork.
It is reported that the first batch of covered areas include major long tunnels in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou, as well as the underground ring road of Jiefangbei in Chongqing. Gaode Map said that it will gradually expand its coverage in the future to support more city tunnels and more models of mobile phones.
For a long time, the performance of traditional navigation in tunnel scenarios has been unsatisfactory, causing many inconveniences and safety hazards to drivers, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Missing key fork guidance: Due to the weak or completely missing GPS signal in the tunnel, the navigation system cannot provide accurate guidance, which makes the driver prone to miss the opportunity to change lanes and eventually take the wrong path.
2. Speed limit reminders are not timely enough: the navigation system cannot accurately judge the vehicle’s driving speed, resulting in an increase in the risk of speeding, especially in tunnels with changing speed limits.
3. Inaccurate exit distance calculation: Inaccurate positioning makes it impossible for the navigation system to effectively predict exit distance, and drivers are prone to dangerous situations such as sudden braking or rear-end collision.
This cooperation between Gaode Map and Huawei is to solve the above pain points. Through the complementary technical advantages of both parties, we will create a breakthrough tunnel navigation solution:
1. Multi-source fusion realizes tunnel lane positioning: This solution utilizes Huawei’s powerful end-side capabilities to receive and process multi-source sensor data from the mobile phone in real time, including geomagnetics, accelerometers, gyroscopes and other information, to achieve precise lane-level position matching. Compared with traditional GPS positioning, this multi-source fusion method can effectively improve the positioning accuracy in the tunnel.
2. Dynamic calibration of intelligent algorithms: Gaode Map uses advanced multi-sensor fusion algorithm and real-time error correction model to perform millisecond dynamic calibration of positioning information, effectively suppressing the accumulation of errors in traditional inertial navigation. This means that even if you drive in a tunnel for a long time, the positioning accuracy can be effectively guaranteed.
3. Long-distance stable and high-precision output: Even in an extremely long tunnel environment of more than 3 kilometers, this solution can stably output submeter-level accuracy position information, laying a solid foundation for accurate navigation. This greatly improves the reliability of navigation within long tunnels.
Based on the above-mentioned powerful underlying technical support, Gaode Map seamlessly extends the excellent navigation experience to the depths of the tunnel, bringing drivers a safer and more convenient driving experience:
1. Full lane-level guidance: In the tunnel, the navigation interface can clearly display the precise lane where the vehicle is located in real time. When approaching a fork, provide eye-catching and clear lane-level arrow instructions to allow the driver to have a clear understanding of the driving path.
2. Accurate display of exit distance: Based on accurate positioning information, the navigation system can calculate and display the exit distance to meters in real time, helping the driver to plan the lane change timing calmly and avoid sudden braking.
3. Smart lane suggestions: Combining the destination and real-time road conditions information, the navigation system can actively recommend the optimal driving lane in the tunnel and issue lane change reminders at the appropriate time, thereby improving traffic efficiency.
4. Speed limit safety reminder: Relying on accurate speed judgment, the navigation system can monitor the speed of the vehicle in the tunnel throughout the entire process. Once the speed limit is approached or exceeded, voice and visual reminders will be triggered in time to effectively ensure driving safety. This feature is particularly important especially in tunnel environments where speeding is prone to overspeed.
