Rain Technology reported on June 28 that, with the assistance of the “Honor of Kings” project team and security team, Tencent Game Security Center, in conjunction with the Cyber Security Detachment of Quanzhou Public Security Bureau, the Cyber Security Brigade of Nan’an Public Security Bureau and the Shuitou Police Station, successfully arrested a total of 6 criminal suspects Xiao Mourui and his employees in a community in Shuitou Town, Nan’an City.
This operation successfully cracked a case of invading and illegally controlling computer information system programs and tools.
Preliminary police investigation shows that Xiao Mourui started operating the online “Honor of Kings” studio as early as 2022, and its main businesses include game play, accompanying games, and live streaming and selling goods.
In December 2024, in order to improve the winning rate of studio training employees and retain customers, Xiao Mourui purchased the right to use a plug-in software “Honor of Kings” from Yang Mou, the previous company, for a price of 90,000 yuan. This plug-in software can achieve functions such as perspective of enemy hero positions and skill cooldown times, seriously undermining the fairness of the game.
Since January 2025, Xiao Mourui has organized more than 30 offline betting employees to live in the suite he rents, helping players win high winning rates by using plug-in software, thereby earning high commissions. This behavior not only harms the gaming experience of other players, but also seriously violates the rules of the game and relevant laws and regulations.
Preliminary statistics show that from January 2025 to the present, offline players have guided players to purchase studio customized plug-ins, and through cheating and playing points, and even organizing directors’ peak competition to sell points, they have made more than 250,000 yuan in profits for the studio to receive orders. These illegal acts have formed a complete industrial chain, posing a great threat to the game ecosystem of “Honor of Kings”.
It is understood that Xiao Mourui’s behavior is suspected of providing intrusion and illegal control of computer information system programs and tools. He has been criminally detained and the case is under further investigation.
The successful investigation of this case reflects Tencent Games and the public security organs’ zero-tolerance attitude towards game plug-ins, and on the other hand, it also warns all game players and practitioners not to test the law with their own eyes and touch the legal red line. Cheating behaviors such as using plug-ins will not only undermine the fairness of the game, but will also bring legal risks to yourself. With the continuous development of the game industry, cracking down on illegal behaviors such as plug-ins will also become the norm. We look forward to the relevant departments continuing to increase their crackdowns and create a fair and healthy gaming environment for players.
