According to a report on July 7th from Kuaitech, India has once again garnered attention for an incident that has been described as rather unconventional and outside the realm of typical expected behavior. A video circulating online has left many onlookers perplexed.
The footage appears to show traffic police officers standing in front of a large screen. The screen itself displays live feeds from public surveillance cameras, with numerous vehicles in motion.
In a surprising turn of events, one of the police officers is seen pointing a speed detection gun directly at the screen, seemingly attempting to measure the speed of a vehicle shown in the video. Astonishingly, the officer then proceeds to issue a traffic ticket based on this reading.
This peculiar practice has understandably caused quite a stir. Some domestic netizens have humorously remarked, “This is true artificial intelligence, with electronic eyes,” while others have suggested, “If the video playback speed were increased to 2x, even more tickets could be issued.”
In India, traffic violation penalties for speeding vary depending on the region and the severity of the infraction. These typically include fines, license point deductions, and in more serious cases, license suspension. Furthermore, certain regions have adopted unique and notable methods of enforcement.
For instance, in the Indian state of Bihar, traffic police have reportedly resorted to making speeding drivers perform 500 meters of “frog jumps” in public, requiring them to shout the names of their preferred politicians during the exercise. The rationale behind this unusual punishment, according to the police, is to ensure the drivers learn their lesson and to serve as a deterrent.
Additionally, in some areas, traffic police may require drivers to loudly read traffic regulations aloud and then sign a statement confirming their commitment to adhering to the rules and refraining from further violations.
