According to a report on July 13th by Kuaitech, WeChat for iOS has introduced a new feature allowing users to send “Live Photos” (實況照片) to friends in chats. This functionality is currently in a limited beta testing phase.
To utilize this feature, users need to update their WeChat iOS app to version 8.0.61 or later. By default, Live Photos are disabled. When sending a photo, users can manually enable the Live Photo option by tapping to enlarge the preview of an individual photo.
Recipients can view the complete Live Photo effect by tapping a “Live” button located in the lower-left corner after opening the enlarged photo. The feature also allows Live Photos to be saved to the device’s system album.
Regarding Android and HarmonyOS users, Tencent has stated that due to varying adaptation progress across different brands, they are actively working on related adaptations to meet the needs of a broader user base.
Here are some frequently asked questions and their answers:
Can the sound of Live Photos be turned off when sending?
Why does the sent Live Photo appear as a static image?
If a sent Live Photo appears as a static image, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
1. The Live Photo sending feature is currently undergoing a phased rollout, and you may not have received access to it yet.
3. The Live Photo was generated by a third-party video editing software in a non-standard format, and thus it cannot be sent as a Live Photo.
4. Due to differing brand adaptation progress, sending Live Photos on Android/HarmonyOS is not yet supported.
Will sending Live Photos involve compression?
When sending Live Photos in WeChat chats, if “Original Image” is not selected, the photos will undergo some degree of compression. However, this compression should not affect your normal usage or viewing experience.
