On July 14th, reports from Kuai Technology detail a distressing incident experienced by a Chinese travel blogger, known on Xiaohongshu as “Pushing Wife to See the World.” While on a self-driving tour with his wife in San Sebastián, Spain, their entire towed caravan was stolen. The estimated loss amounts to nearly 500,000 RMB, a significant blow to the couple.
According to the blogger’s account, citing two eyewitness testimonies, the thieves acted with brazen nonchalance. They appeared to treat the stolen vehicle as their own, hitching the caravan to their lead car, which bore French license plates. Under the cover of night, they “naturally” drove away with what was described as “their entire home.”
The situation was further compounded by the wife’s severe heart condition, which has left her permanently disabled. “At that moment, let alone any spare clothes, all the essential medications were also gone. It was just us, completely empty-handed, numbly being questioned by the police at the crime scene in the pouring rain,” the blogger recounted, highlighting the devastating impact of the theft beyond the material loss.
Following the theft, the blogger meticulously compiled a list of the lost items. The caravan itself, along with valuable jewelry, electronic devices, various tools, and clothing, represented a significant portion of their assets, akin to losing a small house to fire.
It is understood that caravan theft has unfortunately evolved into an organized industry in the region. Perpetrators typically operate in groups, and stolen vehicles are often transported to Eastern Europe within days for modification and resale. This organized nature of the crime significantly diminishes the chances of recovery.
The blogger expressed a profound sense of disillusionment, contrasting the current reality with his memories of Europe during his student days, which he remembered as a time of open doors and friendly neighbors. “For two years, we cautiously navigated our travels, avoiding personal theft and robbery. Our Land Rover survived countless parking lots that seemed insecure. Yet, a moment of carelessness ultimately led to the loss of our entire home, a complete and utter defeat!”
He issued a stern warning to fellow Chinese travelers venturing in Europe, urging them to exercise extreme caution to avoid a similar fate. His plea also extended to the wider community, asking anyone who might spot their stolen vehicle in Europe to contact him immediately.
