Apple is gearing up to launch its iPhone 17 series in September. Alongside the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, the company is reportedly introducing a brand new model: the iPhone 17 Air. This new device is positioned as a lightweight and slim option, potentially replacing the Plus moniker as Apple’s new series. Early reports suggest it could be the thinnest iPhone ever produced by Apple.
According to leaks from the tech blogger “Digital Chat Station,” the iPhone 17 Air will utilize a double-sided cold-carving process to achieve its reduced thickness. This design choice might mean a smaller battery capacity, estimated to be around 3000mAh, and a body depth in the 5.Xmm range. The focus on ultra-lightweight design raises questions about whether this will translate into enhanced productivity for users.
The anticipated iPhone 17 Air has garnered attention from industry figures. Wang Teng, the General Manager of REDMI, publicly stated his excitement for the device, commenting, “I want to get one to play with and learn from.” This sentiment from a competitor highlights the significant interest in Apple’s push towards ultra-thin smartphone design.
In pursuit of an exceptionally slim profile, the iPhone 17 Air is said to be eliminating the physical SIM card slot, exclusively supporting eSIM technology. eSIM, or embedded SIM, is an increasingly adopted standard that allows for network connectivity through remotely downloaded configuration profiles. This move not only contributes to a sleeker device but also signals a larger trend in the mobile industry towards digital SIM solutions.
Regarding its core specifications, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a 120Hz flat display and be powered by the A19 processor. It will reportedly come equipped with 12GB of RAM and a 48-megapixel single rear camera. The device is set to ship with iOS 26 out of the box.
