On August 11th, Visionox announced that the main building of the 8.6th generation AMOLED production line of Hefei GVO Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Hefei GVO) has been successfully topped out.
Visionox stated that as the world’s first high-generation AMOLED production line equipped with the Filtered Metal Mask-free (FMM-free) technology (ViP), the rapid progress of this project marks a significant step towards the mass production of ViP technology. The topping-out of the main structure signifies that the construction has entered a new phase, moving from civil engineering to the installation of core equipment, which is crucial for meeting upcoming production timelines.
The production line is located in Hefei XinZhan High-tech Zone and is responsible for its construction and operation by Hefei GVO. Hefei GVO is funded by Visionox and Hefei City’s investment platforms. This collaboration highlights a strong regional commitment to advancing display technology and fostering innovation within the area.
The production line has a total investment of 55 billion yuan and a designed capacity of 32,000 glass substrates per month (measuring 2290mm x 2620mm). This substantial investment underscores the industry’s belief in the potential of next-generation AMOLED technology and its ability to meet growing market demands.
The production line utilizes Visionox’s independently developed ViP technology. This innovative approach employs semiconductor photolithography processes for AMOLED pixel fabrication, completely liberating it from the constraints of traditional FMM processes. The ViP technology offers core advantages such as independent pixels, high precision, and high yield rates. These benefits are poised to significantly enhance the cutting efficiency and economic viability of AMOLED panels, offering superior solutions for medium-to-large sized high-end display markets, including tablets, laptops, and automotive displays. The ability to bypass the FMM printing process is a major breakthrough, potentially simplifying manufacturing and reducing costs associated with precision alignment.
Compared to FMM AMOLED panels, ViP AMOLED panels achieve multiplicative breakthroughs in key metrics such as resolution, power consumption, and lifespan. This advancement enables them to meet the growing demands for clearer picture quality, longer battery life, and more stable performance across a wide range of applications, including smartphones, laptops, automotive displays, and AR/VR devices. The improved performance characteristics of ViP technology are expected to drive adoption in premium segments where visual experience and efficiency are paramount. The implications for improved display quality and energy efficiency are significant for all these application areas.
