During the Xbox Gamescom presentation, the official launch dates for the new ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming devices were officially announced. Both are slated for release on October 16th. While specific pricing details are still to be revealed, it’s important to note that only the ROG Xbox Ally X will be available in the Chinese market.

Both handhelds boast a native 1080P 120Hz landscape display. The original ROG Xbox Ally is equipped with an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM, and a 512GB M.2 2280 SSD. It features a 60Wh battery.
In contrast, the ROG Xbox Ally X steps up with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, a substantial 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, and a generous 1TB M.2 2280 SSD. Its battery capacity is also increased to 80Wh, indicating a focus on longer playtime and enhanced performance.

Furthermore, the new Xbox handhelds will feature an “integrated game library.” This means that in addition to the Xbox store, users will have direct access to game libraries from various other platforms. This includes popular storefronts such as Steam, Battle.net, the Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store, GOG, and the EA App. This multi-platform accessibility is a significant advantage for users who own games across different digital distribution channels, offering a more unified gaming experience.

The dock mode for the Xbox Ally devices is also set to receive several optimizations and upgrades. According to Roanne Sones, Xbox Corporate Vice President for Gaming Devices and Ecosystem, Microsoft is committed to creating “a set of seamless, high-performance solutions.” These enhancements will support features such as big-screen gaming, automatic Super Resolution (SR), intelligent controller pairing, and optimized display output, suggesting a more versatile and console-like experience when connected to an external display.

ROG has also released a visual summary of the ROG Xbox Ally X’s specifications, providing a clear overview of its capabilities.
