On August 21st, according to media reports, Zhang Chaoyang, the founder, Chairman, and CEO of Sohu, recently revealed for the first time that he will attempt to swim across the Nan’ao Island Strait on September 14th using the breaststroke, a challenge covering an open water distance of 8 kilometers.
Zhang Chaoyang stated that this crossing is not only a test of his physical limits but also serves as a preview for the upcoming Sohu Video Broadcaster Conference. Sohu Video will provide live coverage of the entire challenge.
Last year, Zhang Chaoyang successfully completed a 4.15-kilometer swim in Weihai Bay. The current 8-kilometer endeavor represents a significant increase in difficulty. However, he admitted that despite the doubled distance, he does not fear this challenge.
Beyond the physical objectives, Zhang Chaoyang aims to promote a lifestyle of health and self-discipline through this event. He remarked, “When you feel anxious or stuck in life, appropriate exercise can bring about change. The initial purpose of exercise is to become a healthy and energetic person.”
To prepare for this swim, Zhang Chaoyang has been engaged in a month of high-intensity alternating training, adhering to a rigorous schedule of “running 5 kilometers one day and swimming 5 kilometers the next.”
In his view, life is about constant engagement and exploration, and everyone should actively express themselves. “It’s not just celebrities; ordinary people can also bravely ‘stir things up.’ In the era of video self-media, everyone has the opportunity to showcase what they love and are good at, even if their audience is just their social circle.” He encourages everyone to interact with their audience through social platforms to achieve self-worth and cognitive growth.
