Huawei has officially announced that the Huawei MatePad Mini will be launched on September 4th, with the slogan “Super Power, Super Mini”. This marks Huawei’s debut in the flagship compact tablet segment.
“Digital Chat Station,” a prominent tech blogger, had previously revealed that a smaller Huawei MatePad tablet had received network access approval and is positioned as an all-around, thin, and light device.
Leaked information suggests that this new tablet will feature an 8.8-inch compact display with a 16:9 aspect ratio OLED screen, and will be powered by a Kirin 9 series platform, likely the Kirin 9020.
Furthermore, engineering prototypes of the Huawei compact tablet include a 5G cellular version, enabling constant internet access and phone calls on the go.
Historically, the small-sized tablet market has been largely dominated by Apple’s iPad mini series. However, with a growing demand for more portable tablet options, domestic manufacturers, including Huawei, are increasingly focusing on this niche segment.
The introduction of the Huawei MatePad Mini is anticipated to leverage the strengths of the HarmonyOS ecosystem and its synergistic hardware and software integration. This strategic move is expected to enable Huawei to gradually capture market share currently held by Apple in the compact tablet space, thereby opening up new avenues for growth in Huawei’s tablet business.
