According to data released by U-CAR and compiled by the YiChe list, the August automotive brand and model sales figures for Taiwan Province have been published.
The sales charts reveal a strong preference among Taiwanese consumers for Japanese vehicles. In the Top 10 model sales, Japanese cars secured eight spots, while in the brand sales rankings, Japanese brands captured half of the top positions.
Specifically, Toyota emerged as the dominant force in the model sales. The top three best-selling models were the Corolla Cross, Model Y, and Toyota Town Ace, with sales figures of 3,417 units, 1,879 units, and 1,382 units, respectively. This data indicates a diversified appeal, with a compact SUV, an electric vehicle, and a commercial vehicle all performing strongly.
Further reinforcing Toyota’s success, the RAV4 and Yaris Cross, both from the Toyota stable, secured the fourth and fifth positions, with sales exceeding 1,200 units each. This consistent performance across different vehicle segments highlights Toyota’s broad market appeal and product lineup quality.
The remaining spots in the top ten models were occupied by the CMC J Space, Lexus NX, Corolla, Honda HR-V, and Suzuki Delica, showcasing a mix of domestic and other international brands. The presence of Lexus and CMC points to the strength of both premium Japanese offerings and established local manufacturers.
In the brand sales rankings, Toyota demonstrated a significant lead, securing the first position with 9,310 units sold. Toyota’s dual achievement of topping both the brand and model sales charts underscores its market dominance in Taiwan.
Toyota’s premium brand, Lexus, claimed the second spot with 2,613 sales in August. Combined, Toyota and Lexus captured over 40% of the automotive market share in Taiwan Province during August. This substantial market share highlights the strong brand loyalty and perceived value that Toyota group brands command among Taiwanese consumers.
Rounding out the top ten brands were Tesla, CMC (Chung Hua Motors), Honda, Mazda, Hyundai, BMW, Mitsubishi, and Mercedes-Benz. The inclusion of Tesla in the top rankings indicates the growing acceptance of electric vehicles in the Taiwanese market, while the presence of other established European and Asian brands reflects a competitive and diverse automotive landscape.
