As reported by media on September 4th, the Amazon live-action series “Tomb Raider” has announced that filming will commence on January 19th, 2026.
The series is penned, produced, and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for “Fleabag.” The highly anticipated role of Lara Croft will be portrayed by Sophie Turner, an actress recognized for her work in “Game of Thrones.”
Sophie Turner expressed her excitement about embodying Lara Croft and pledged her full commitment to the role. She acknowledged the significant challenge of stepping into the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander’s iconic performances but conveyed her confidence under Waller-Bridge’s guidance.
Information indicates that the “Tomb Raider” franchise originated as an action-adventure game series by Eidos, with the first installment released in 1996. The original “Tomb Raider” game was groundbreaking for its innovative blend of action, puzzle-solving, and exploration, offering players an unprecedented gaming experience and arguably pioneering a new genre.
In 2001, the action film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” adapted from the video game, was released, with Angelina Jolie taking on the role of Lara Croft. The film achieved two global records: the highest-grossing film with a female lead and the highest-grossing film adaptation of a computer game.
