On September 9th, according to Kuaitech, China Southern Airlines reported that on September 8th, flight CZ3791 (Zhuhai-Taiyuan) was diverted to Shijiazhuang Airport due to thunderstorms affecting Taiyuan Airport and for safety considerations, the crew followed the contingency plan.
The airline actively provided service and support. After the weather improved, the flight took off again and safely arrived in Taiyuan in the early hours of the next day. We thank all passengers for their understanding and support.
It is understood that the reason for the diversion of the flight that day was the blue thunderstorm gale warning issued by the Taiyuan Meteorological Observatory at 8:38 PM that day, with gusts expected to reach over level 7, accompanied by heavy lightning and short-term heavy rainfall.
A passenger on the diverted flight recounted the frightening moments before the diversion to the media: “Due to air currents, the plane experienced severe turbulence, causing some passengers to scream. After successfully diverting to Shijiazhuang, many people were in tears.”
After taking off from Zhuhai, the flight had been smooth, and the in-flight announcement indicated that the plane would land in Taiyuan at 9:20 PM. However, the plane did not descend as scheduled. Later, the flight attendants informed passengers that Taiyuan Airport did not have landing conditions and that a diversion to Shijiazhuang was necessary.
The most turbulent part of the journey was from Taiyuan to Shijiazhuang, where lightning could even be seen from inside the cabin, leading many passengers to scream.
Ultimately, after the aircraft successfully diverted, some passengers were visibly upset, with some even choosing to cut their travel plans short.
