DJI has announced a significant firmware update for its first panoramic camera, the Osmo 360. This update introduces six key new features, including a single-lens super night mode, twist-to-shoot functionality, and support for Apple Vision Pro. These enhancements aim to broaden the camera’s versatility and improve its performance in various shooting scenarios.
1. New Single-Lens Super Night Mode
The Osmo 360 now features an enhanced super night mode specifically for single-lens shooting. This upgrade significantly improves the quality of footage captured in low-light conditions, making daily vlogs and first-person perspective night shots appear brighter with clearer details. This dual-lens capability, offering both panoramic and single-lens modes, further solidifies the camera’s all-weather shooting performance.
2. Further Upgrade to Panoramic Super Night Mode
Beyond the single-lens improvement, the panoramic super night mode has also been refined. The update effectively reduces noise in panoramic night shots and notably enhances detail rendition, resulting in a more impressive nocturnal performance for its one-inch panoramic sensor.
3. New Twist-to-Shoot Functionality
Users can now initiate recording by simply twisting the selfie stick twice while the camera is powered on. For added convenience and to prevent accidental activation during movement, this feature can be configured to “record only,” thus avoiding unintentional interruptions.
4. Support for DJI Mic 3 Connectivity
The Osmo 360 now supports dual direct connections with the DJI Mic 3, enabling seamless integration with the Osmo Audio ecosystem. Pairing is straightforward: a two-second press on the DJI Mic 3 transmitter’s pairing button initiates the connection, after which users can select the desired microphone from the control center’s wireless microphone menu. The Osmo 360 can simultaneously connect with up to two transmitters.
5. Support for Avinox eBike Assist System Control and Data Transfer
In a notable integration for cycling enthusiasts, the Osmo 360 now wirelessly connects with the Avinox eBike assist system. This allows for wireless control of the camera’s functions, such as sleep/wake, start/stop recording, and mode switching, via a wireless dial. Furthermore, the system can transfer professional sports data recorded by Avinox. This includes metrics like cycling speed, route, heart rate, and cadence, which can be displayed as an integrated dashboard within the final footage using the DJI Mimo App, providing real-time visibility of performance data.
6. Apple Vision Pro Support
In a move that embraces emerging immersive technologies, users can now experience panoramic videos captured by the Osmo 360 within Apple Vision Pro. This integration offers an immersive and authentic viewing experience of native 8K panoramic footage, bringing the content to life with a heightened sense of presence.
The DJI Osmo 360, which was released on July 31st of this year, starts at a price of 2999 RMB. The camera is capable of capturing native 8K panoramic video at up to 50fps, thanks to its 2.4μm large pixels, and boasts 13.5 stops of high dynamic range, delivering excellent performance in low-light and high-contrast scenes. It can also capture 120-megapixel/16K panoramic photos.
For extended recording, the Osmo 360 can continuously record in 8K/30fps for up to 100 minutes, or in 6K panoramic video for up to 190 minutes.
