On October 9th, news emerged of an incident on a highway where a driver encountered a family of wild boars. Due to the close proximity and inability to avoid them, a tragic collision occurred.
The event reportedly took place on the evening of October 3rd on the G12 Hunchun-Ulanhot Expressway. The netizen was traveling at a speed of 105 km/h when they were suddenly confronted by a group of wild boars crossing the road. Video footage suggests it was a family, with two larger boars in front and smaller ones following behind.

The suddenness of the event and limited visibility at night led to a collision with the group of wild boars. The impact resulted in the death of five boars. The vehicle’s front fender was damaged, but fortunately, the occupants were unharmed.

Notably, on the same day, another netizen encountered a group of wild boars while exiting the highway onto an access ramp. Fortunately, the vehicle was traveling at a slower speed, and the use of high beams prevented a collision.
Autumn is generally a peak period for wild boar activity. During this season, they expand their foraging range to build up energy reserves for winter. Additionally, male wild boars are more migratory due to the mating season and competition for mates.
In recent years, an improvement in the ecological environment in Northeast China has led to a significant increase in the wild boar population. In some areas, this has even resulted in a trend of population overabundance.
While some highways have been equipped with protective fencing and wildlife crossings, the harsh winter weather in Northeast China can potentially damage these facilities, creating opportunities for wild boars to access the highways.
Authorities remind drivers that if they encounter wild animals suddenly appearing on the highway, it is crucial to maintain a stable direction and avoid sudden steering maneuvers. Such actions could lead to a rollover, resulting in a more severe accident.
