Microsoft OneNote has long been a favorite among users. Notably, OneNote is not exclusively bundled with paid Microsoft 365 subscriptions; users can download and utilize it independently from the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft has now introduced a highly anticipated feature for OneNote: image cropping.
Previously, users wishing to insert a cropped image into OneNote had to rely on external tools or applications to perform the cropping operation before inserting it into their notes. This process was quite cumbersome and inefficient.
The newly released image cropping functionality allows users to complete this task directly within OneNote, significantly streamlining the workflow. This enhancement is particularly useful for removing distracting background elements or zooming in on specific details.
To utilize this feature, users simply need to open their OneNote application, select an existing image or insert a new one. Then, they can navigate to “Picture Format” in the application’s toolbar. From there, cropping can be achieved in one of two ways:
Picture Format – Crop: This method allows for manual adjustment of the image size by dragging the cropping handles with the mouse.
Picture Format – Keyboard Cropping: For more precise adjustments to the cropping area, users can utilize the directional keys (←↑→↓) on their keyboard.
However, this feature is currently exclusive to OneNote Insiders on the Windows platform, specifically those running version 2509, Build 19323.10000 or a later build.
Users on other platforms, including Mac, Android, iOS, and the web version, will be able to view images that have been cropped. However, the OneNote applications on these platforms do not yet support the image cropping functionality.
