According to media reports on November 2nd, the first instance verdict in the case of “Brother Coat” (also known as Zhu Zhiwen), who was cyberbullied for four years by a woman, was announced yesterday.
The court ruled that the defendant, Sun Moumou, was found guilty of insult and sentenced to six months in prison, and guilty of defamation and sentenced to four months of detention. The sentences were merged, resulting in an overall prison sentence of six months.
Previously, “Brother Coat,” a farmer-singer from Shandong who had endured cyberbullying for four years, took legal action, filing a lawsuit against the online aggressor for insult and defamation.
“Brother Coat” stated that the defendant was a “hater” who, between 2020 and 2024, maliciously manipulated hundreds of videos with insulting and defamatory content targeting him and his family. These posts included false accusations such as tax evasion and having affairs with female fans.
“Brother Coat” asserted that he had never met or interacted with the defendant in real life.
“This person did not know me, yet for four years, she not only verbally abused me but also my family. No one could tolerate such behavior.”
Regarding a decline in his public profile, “Brother Coat” responded, “I take things as they come. One should be content and happy. At the very least, my current situation is much better than working construction. Now, I don’t worry about food or clothing, and I participate in public welfare activities without seeking any compensation.”
