On July 7th, Xiaomi Auto released the 171st episode of its Q&A for netizens. A user inquired about the design choice of a long front end for the Xiaomi SU7, a pure electric vehicle.
Xiaomi Auto responded by explaining that the extended front end of the Xiaomi SU7 balances aesthetics and practicality. The company believes that beauty in automotive design often stems from proportional harmony. In line with a century of automotive design principles, the long hood imparts a more streamlined and dynamic posture to the Xiaomi SU7, while also resonating with the vehicle’s overall design language.
Beyond its visual appeal, the extended front end also offers tangible practical benefits. A longer front section provides a greater crumple zone in the event of a frontal collision, thereby enhancing safety. This design, coupled with the large 3.11 square meter clamshell aluminum hood, also accommodates a spacious 141-liter front trunk (or “frunk”). The frunk even features an optional electric opening function, which is currently being offered as a complimentary upgrade for all models ordered before 12:00 AM on July 31st, further addressing storage needs.
In terms of passenger comfort, the Xiaomi SU7 boasts a low-slung, elegant, and sporty luxury exterior. This design does not compromise interior space; in fact, the vehicle offers a comfortable and spacious cabin. The 3000mm wheelbase and the slim design of the dashboard contribute to generous rear legroom and ample front passenger space, along with an expansive field of vision.
The maneuverability of the Xiaomi SU7 is also a noteworthy aspect of its design. The vehicle comes standard with variable steering ratio technology across all trims. This feature allows for a turning radius of just 5.7 meters, making it significantly more agile in low-speed situations such as U-turns and parking. It is capable of executing a U-turn in a three-lane road in a single maneuver.
To further ensure driving safety, the Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features. These include a 360° panoramic view system, narrow lane assist, low-speed anti-collision assist, and forward collision warning, all contributing to a more secure driving experience.
