On July 15th, according to Kuai Technology, BMW has announced a collaboration with Chinese technology company Momenta to jointly develop next-generation intelligent driving assistance solutions tailored for the Chinese market. Leveraging AI large models, the partnership will focus on Chinese mobility scenarios and user needs, aiming to deliver comprehensive, point-to-point automated driving assistance functionalities.
This intelligent driving assistance system is slated to be first integrated into domestically produced BMW models of the new generation. It will cover both highway and urban road driving, with the capability to perform end-to-end journeys, from exiting a parking spot, navigating through urban areas and highways, to reaching the destination and parking itself. This aims to provide a seamless and worry-free travel experience.
Jochen Goller, President and CEO of BMW Group Greater China, stated, “BMW’s unique product philosophy and approach to driving assistance are deeply integrating with China’s excellent digital technology. We look forward to setting another example of co-creation and win-win with Momenta. Chinese intelligence, coupled with a strong alliance, will propel BMW’s ‘In China, For China, Innovating at China Speed’ strategy into a new era.”
Indeed, it’s not just BMW. Mercedes-Benz and Audi, also prominent players in the BBA alliance, have previously announced their own joint development of assisted driving functions for the Chinese market with Momenta.
Mercedes-Benz, for instance, decided to collaborate with Momenta early last year, planning to launch at least four models equipped with Momenta’s Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) software within the next three years.
During the Shanghai Auto Show this year, the new Audi brand under SAIC, Audi, announced its partnership with Momenta, aiming to jointly create the industry’s first “German electric luxury standard + flywheel large model” intelligent assisted driving solution.
Meanwhile, Audi China’s other affiliate, FAW Audi, has partnered with Huawei. Their first collaborative model, the Audi A5L, is the first gasoline-powered vehicle to feature Huawei’s ADS full-stack intelligent driving system.
The collective choice of Chinese assisted driving solutions by the BBA group clearly indicates that Chinese companies are leading traditional automakers in the practical implementation of intelligent assisted driving.
Momenta, as a leading Chinese intelligent driving solutions provider, boasts its self-developed “Flywheel Large Model” as the core competitive advantage of its autonomous driving products. Through the automatic optimization and iteration of massive real-world driving data and algorithms, it has moved beyond the reliance on high-definition maps. Its solutions have been deployed in markets across China, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East, and Japan, enabling the capability of “driving everywhere globally.”
Currently, Momenta has collaborated with numerous automotive manufacturers, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, General Motors, Toyota, BYD, and SAIC, providing them with comprehensive intelligent driving solutions. The company has worked with over a hundred mass-produced vehicle models.
