According to widely circulated reports from prominent Apple leaker Mark Gurman, the company is poised to commence the development of iOS 27 in the near future. A key priority for Apple in this next-generation operating system will be the introduction of exclusive software features tailored specifically for its anticipated foldable iPhone.
The official unveiling of iOS 27 is slated for next year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in the first half of the year. The final release is expected in September, with the foldable iPhone set to be the inaugural device to feature this new operating system.
While Mark Gurman has not disclosed the specific foldable-centric functionalities planned for iOS 27, industry observers anticipate that Apple will leverage the larger screen real estate offered by foldable devices to enhance multitasking capabilities and improve the overall user experience for both productivity and entertainment. Given the unique form factor of foldable phones, features like sophisticated split-screen functionality are highly probable.
Further insights suggest that Apple’s foldable iPhone will deviate from many of the designs currently available in the market. This device is reportedly equipped with a 7.58-inch display, boasting a resolution of 2713 x 1920 pixels and an aspect ratio of 14.1:10, characterizing it as a “wide-fold” model.
Supply chain intelligence indicates that Samsung will be the provider of OLED panels for Apple’s foldable iPhone. Samsung has reportedly established a dedicated production line at its A3 factory in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea, specifically for manufacturing these OLED panels. This production line is said to be in its final stages of engineering, with an estimated annual production capacity of 15 million panels. The involvement of Samsung, a leader in display technology, underscores the potential for a high-quality and innovative display experience on Apple’s foldable device. The significant production capacity also hints at Apple’s ambitions for substantial market penetration with this new product category.
