On July 21st， according to a CCTV interview， Jensen Huang， CEO of NVIDIA， stated that Huawei is a competitor， not an enemy.
Jensen Huang commented on Huawei’s technological prowess， noting that a thorough examination of Huawei’s mobile phones reveals significant technological achievements. He highlighted their impressive advancements in autonomous driving and their considerable expertise in AI. Huang described Huawei as a company with robust chip design capabilities， system design， and system software development， underscoring their comprehensive technological strengths.
“Huawei is not only highly innovative but also a company of considerable scale and strength. In terms of company size， personnel， and technical capabilities， Huawei is vast and deep. Therefore， this company remains highly competitive. They are our competitors， but we can still admire and respect our competitors and maintain a good relationship with them. Competitors are not enemies.”
Huang believes that the AI market in China will progress regardless of NVIDIA’s presence. He implied that if NVIDIA were not involved， Huawei would undoubtedly develop its own solutions， showcasing their self-reliance and innovative spirit.
When asked whether NVIDIA views Huawei as a competitor or a partner， Huang reiterated， “This company remains highly competitive. They are our competitors， but we can still admire and respect our competitors and maintain a good relationship with them. Competitors are not enemies. The world is vast， and I hope we can continue to compete for many years to come. My sentiment towards them is one of admiration， respect， and a strong sense of competition.”
Earlier remarks from Huang revealed his perspective on Huawei’s significance. He pointed out that anyone who underestimates Huawei or the manufacturing capabilities of China is “deeply naive.” He recognized Huawei as a formidable company， having witnessed the technological innovations they have produced in the past.
He further challenged the media by posing rhetorical questions: “Give me an example， which mobile phone company in the world produces a more advanced phone than Huawei? Give me another example， which company in the world has developed cellular communication technology that is as good as， or even better than， Huawei’s?”
