Thai Man Survives Month on “Liquid Bread,” Found Dead at Home

Beer is often referred to as “liquid bread.” However, the question arises: can a person survive solely on beer without eating any food? The answer is a definitive no.

According to overseas media reports, a 44-year-old man in Thailand passed away at home. The scene revealed over 100 empty beer bottles, with only a narrow passageway. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be subsisting solely on beer for over a month. This case highlights a critical deficiency in nutritional intake, underscoring that while beer provides calories, it lacks the essential nutrients for sustained human health.

It is understood that medical personnel received a distress call reporting a man experiencing epileptic symptoms and losing consciousness at home. By the time rescuers arrived, the man had already shown no signs of life. This tragic outcome serves as a stark warning about the severe consequences of extreme dietary choices.

Reports indicate the man, identified as Thaweesak, was divorced and lived alone, raising his 16-year-old son. He reportedly turned to alcohol to cope with his personal struggles. The choice to subsist on beer, however, led to a catastrophic decline in his health.

The man’s son revealed that he would prepare meals for his father every day after school, but his father refused to eat them, opting instead to drink only beer for approximately one month. This voluntary nutritional deprivation, despite the availability of balanced meals, demonstrates a profound and ultimately fatal disregard for his own well-being.

On the day of the incident, upon returning home, the son found his father convulsing on the bed. Realizing the gravity of the situation, he promptly called for emergency services, but it was too late to save his father’s life. The son’s desperate attempt to provide care serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of addiction and poor lifestyle choices on families.

While beer contains calories that can provide temporary energy for the human body, it significantly lacks crucial nutrients such as protein, vitamins, and minerals. This deficiency means that while one might feel sustained briefly, the body is not receiving the building blocks and regulatory elements necessary for survival and function. The reliance on beer alone creates a severe nutritional imbalance.

Long-term reliance on beer as a sole source of sustenance can lead to a multitude of serious health problems. These include a weakened immune system, liver damage, kidney dysfunction, electrolyte imbalances, metabolic disorders, blood pressure irregularities, and even cardiac arrest, ultimately resulting in death. The case of Thaweesak tragically exemplifies these severe health risks.
