On July 31, BYD’s Yangwang U8 L Dingshi Edition began its pre-sale this afternoon, with a pre-sale price of 1.3 million yuan and a deposit of 20,000 yuan.
Existing Yangwang owners can also enjoy an 80,000 yuan trade-in or upgrade incentive. Additionally, customers who pay a deposit before the official launch will receive a 30,000 yuan option fund, which can be combined with the trade-in incentive. Show vehicles for the Yangwang U8 L Dingshi Edition are expected to arrive at dealerships throughout August.
For exterior customization, the Yangwang U8 L Dingshi Edition offers two new dual-tone black and gold body color options, 23-inch eight-spoke forged wheels, and an Oracle bone script gold badge package.
The Yangwang U8 L Dingshi Edition is understood to be an extended and enhanced version of the Yangwang U8, transitioning from a two-row, five-seater configuration to a three-row, six-seater layout.
As a full-size executive luxury SUV, the Yangwang U8 L boasts a wheelbase of 3250mm and a body length of 5400mm, making it the longest in its class, even surpassing established luxury titans like the Range Rover and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. This significant increase in length signifies a shift in its market positioning, likely emphasizing passenger comfort and executive-level amenities over hardcore off-roading capabilities.
The front fascia of the new model remains largely similar to the current Yangwang U8, distinguished by a new dual-tone black and gold color scheme and the inclusion of the Oracle bone script gold badge, crafted from genuine 24K gold, exuding a noble aura.
The central console continues the U8’s immersive design, featuring a 12.8-inch curved OLED display, a 23.6-inch full-width instrument cluster, a passenger-side multimedia screen, and an AR-HUD head-up display system. High-quality leather materials are used extensively throughout the cabin, with even the steering wheel logo accented in gold.
The interior offers front and rear panoramic sunroofs. The second row is equipped with a 21.4-inch ceiling-mounted entertainment screen, ten different aromatherapy scents, dual-foldable tables, a car refrigerator, and smart electrochromic privacy windows. The second-row seats are zero-gravity seats, featuring power leg rests and an armrest control screen.
In terms of powertrain, the new model retains the existing Yangwang U8’s setup, utilizing the “e-Four” technology, which combines a 2.0T engine with electric motors for a total output of 880 kW and 1280 Nm of torque. This system enables independent torque vectoring for each wheel, allowing for capabilities such as原地掉头 (zero-radius turn), e-Four parking, and stable driving even with a tire blowout. It is also equipped with the Yun-Nian-P intelligent hydraulic body control system for leveling the vehicle’s posture with a single button press.
Overall, the extended body of the Yangwang U8 L Dingshi Edition suggests a repositioning away from its purely off-road focus, shifting towards a blend of advanced technology and unadulterated luxury. This new model is poised to set a new benchmark for domestic luxury SUVs in terms of technological innovation and pricing, potentially establishing itself as the new “ceiling” for Chinese-made luxury SUVs.
