On August 17th, Ele.me’s Chairman and CEO, Wu Zeming (internal name: Fan Yu), issued an internal letter officially announcing the upgrade of all platform couriers to “City Knights.”
This move signifies Ele.me’s comprehensive enhancement of its courier protection, incentive, care, and development systems. The company also plans to provide new uniforms for couriers, aiming to pay tribute to this group and usher in a new phase of professional development for couriers. This initiative seeks to propel the emerging profession of delivery couriers towards greater professionalism, improved security, enhanced career prospects, and broader societal recognition and respect.
The upgrade encompasses various aspects, including new autumn uniforms, an updated courier protection system, and an honor courier incentive program.
Latest data from Taobao Flash Shopping and Ele.me reveals a significant surge in activity. On August 7th, the day marking the start of autumn (Liqiu), the number of active couriers on the platform reached 3.5 times that of the previous year, with average earnings increasing by 40% year-on-year. This growth indicates a robust demand for delivery services and an increased opportunity for couriers.
The platform’s business operations are also demonstrating strong momentum. As of now, 395 non-catering brand merchants have achieved monthly sales exceeding one million yuan through Taobao Flash Shopping, with 66 of these brands surpassing ten million yuan. These merchants span diverse categories such as 3C digital products, beauty and personal care, sports and outdoor equipment, apparel, general merchandise, mother and baby products, and pet supplies. Renowned brands including Apple, Xiaomi, Watsons, Decathlon, MO&Co, and MINISO have all experienced substantial growth in orders and revenue via Taobao Flash Shopping, highlighting the platform’s effectiveness in reaching and serving a broad consumer base.
Some couriers have already participated in focus group discussions organized by Taobao Flash Shopping and have had the opportunity to try on the upcoming autumn new work attire. Photos from the event showcase the new courier uniforms, which predominantly feature orange and black color schemes. The design is streamlined and bears a resemblance to racing suits, projecting a fresh and professional image for the delivery workforce.
