Tech-time August 24th News: T-bao has recently announced the launch of the world’s first MoTD (Mobile-on-Desktop) motherboard equipped with AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and Ryzen 9 9955HX processors.
MoTD motherboards are a technical solution that integrates mobile processors into desktop motherboards, with the higher power consumption HX series being more common. This approach aims to leverage the advanced performance and efficiency of mobile CPUs for desktop-like applications.
The two processors featured on the T-bao motherboard are high-performance CPUs designed for high-end mobile devices. They are based on the Zen 5 architecture, featuring 16 cores and 32 threads, with a maximum clock speed of up to 5.4 GHz. Their Thermal Design Power (TDP) is set at 55W, but can be configured up to 75W, offering flexibility for different cooling solutions and performance demands.
The standard version boasts 64MB of L3 cache, while the X3D version significantly enhances this by adding an additional 64MB of second-generation 3D V-Cache, bringing the total cache to a substantial 128MB. This large cache is particularly beneficial for gaming and other cache-sensitive workloads, potentially offering a significant performance uplift.
This M-ATX form factor MoTD motherboard sports a minimalist black and white color scheme. It is equipped with a robust 10-phase VRM power delivery system, ensuring stable power to the CPU even under heavy load. The motherboard also features heatsinks for the VRMs and M.2 slots, crucial for maintaining optimal operating temperatures for these components. For expansion, it includes a full-length PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for a graphics card and an additional PCIe 4.0 x1 slot, providing ample connectivity for high-bandwidth peripherals.
Furthermore, the motherboard is outfitted with two Gen5 x4 M.2 slots, designed for high-speed NVMe storage devices. It also supports two standard DDR5 UDIMM memory slots, with a maximum capacity of up to 128GB of RAM, catering to users who require substantial memory for demanding applications.
The motherboard utilizes the standard AM5 socket, powered by an 8-pin connector. It also includes two SATA III interfaces and various fan headers for system cooling management. The I/O panel offers comprehensive connectivity, including 7.1 channel audio support and a range of USB ports, ensuring broad compatibility with common peripherals.
In terms of pricing, the T-bao MoTD motherboard equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D is priced at 4799 RMB, while the model with the 9955HX is priced at 3799 RMB. This pricing positions these MoTD boards competitively. For comparison, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is currently priced at 5099 RMB on JD.com, and the Ryzen 9 9950X is priced at 3799 RMB. Based on specifications, these new T-bao offerings appear to offer a compelling price-to-performance ratio, especially considering their integration of cutting-edge mobile processors into a desktop-compatible platform.
