On August 23rd, media reports emerged about a lion at a zoo in Guizhou province that has gained internet fame. Many visitors have shared videos of the lion on short-video platforms, noting its “unkempt” appearance with dry, unruly fur, making it resemble a “beggar.”
Zoo staff explained that the lion is an African lion and is in good health, but it is generally reluctant to be washed.
Information indicates that the African lion is the largest extant feline in Africa and a top-tier predator on the continent. It possesses a strong physique, ranking second in size among felines, surpassed only by the tiger.
Their fur color is primarily light yellow to brown. Adult male African lions have an average weight of 185 kilograms and can reach a total length of up to 3.4 meters. Male lions have a relatively large head, a rather wide facial structure, and a longer nasal bone, with black noses.
Lions typically prey on any available game, including wildebeest, antelope, zebras, buffalo, giraffes, Nile crocodiles, and hippos. Smaller mammals are also part of their diet.
Currently, African lions are widely distributed across the grasslands of Africa, south of the Sahara Desert, primarily inhabiting African savannas or semi-desert regions.
