According to data from Maoyan Professional Edition, as of 10 PM on August 27th, the box office for the 2025 summer movie season reached 11.304 billion yuan, officially surpassing the 2024 summer season’s 11.299 billion yuan in the same period.
However, this figure still trails behind the 20.188 billion yuan achieved during the 2023 summer movie season, indicating a notable gap in overall market performance compared to last year.
Looking at the broader data for the 2025 summer season, not only has the box office performance been impressive, but spectator numbers and screening frequencies have also remained at a stable scale. As of August 27th, the total number of moviegoers reached 304 million, with a total of 36.832 million screenings.
In terms of top-performing films, “Nanjing Photo Studio,” “Little Yokai of Langlang Mountain,” and “Lychees of Chang’an” are currently leading the 2025 summer box office charts.
Among them, “Nanjing Photo Studio” is leading with a box office revenue of 2.799 billion yuan from 4.123 million screenings, making it the box office pillar of the season. This success can be attributed to its compelling narrative and potentially broader appeal to a diverse audience.
“Little Yokai of Langlang Mountain” follows closely with 1.325 billion yuan in box office revenue from 2.416 million screenings, successfully attracting a large audience with its unique theme and possibly innovative storytelling or visual effects.
“Lychees of Chang’an” secured the third position with 676 million yuan in box office earnings from 1.754 million screenings, suggesting a strong historical or cultural resonance with viewers.
Additionally, films such as “Chasing the Wind,” “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” and “The Legend of Luo Xiaohei 2” have also made it into the top ten highest-grossing films for the season, reflecting a diverse range of genres and audience preferences.
