On September 27th, according to media reports, a 76-year-old individual, identified as Mr. Sun, was found driving a small car on the road without possessing a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
An investigation revealed that the vehicle Mr. Sun was driving had accumulated an astonishing 279 unpaid traffic violations, resulting in a penalty of 819 demerit points. Furthermore, the vehicle’s inspection had expired, and it was not insured with mandatory third-party liability insurance. Mr. Sun apparently stated that he was unaware of the legal requirements for obtaining a driver’s license and purchasing insurance, likening his driving to riding a bicycle. Law enforcement officers subsequently educated Mr. Sun on traffic regulations and imposed legal penalties for his actions.
Under the law, operating a motor vehicle requires a legally obtained driver’s license. It is also prohibited to drive if one’s license is suspended or revoked. Individuals can check the status of their driver’s license through the “交管12123” (Jiaoguan 12123) mobile application.
Additionally, driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly forbidden. Alcohol intoxication significantly impairs a person’s tactile senses, making it difficult to properly control the accelerator, brakes, and steering wheel. Alcohol also prolongs reaction times to visual and auditory stimuli, hindering accurate judgment of distance and speed.
