On September 28th, according to reports from KrChina, Wu Dejin, Deputy Director of the National Railway Administration, stated at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office:
It is anticipated that during the upcoming combined National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period, the national railway will transport over 219 million passenger trips, marking a new historical high. The daily planned operation of passenger trains is approximately 13,000, with an average of 18.25 million passengers transported daily.
The railway department will strategically leverage resources from both high-speed and conventional speed railways. By real-time analysis of the ticketing data from 12306, they will implement measures such as coupling multiple high-speed train sets on routes with concentrated passenger flow and adding extra carriages to conventional trains. These efforts, along with timely arrangements for additional temporary passenger trains, are designed to accommodate the surge in demand.
During peak hours, and while prioritizing safety, there are plans to schedule additional night-time high-speed train services. The railway department will conduct dynamic analysis of passenger flow to scientifically formulate ticketing strategies, enhance real-time monitoring of ticket availability, and balance the needs of both long-distance and short-distance travelers. This approach ensures that tickets are efficiently allocated to stations experiencing high passenger volumes.
The railway department reminds passengers that during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period, travel will be highly concentrated, and there may be periods and locations with exceptionally high demand. For passengers who have not yet purchased tickets, it is recommended to utilize the waiting list ticketing function on 12306.
Each user can simultaneously submit up to 6 waiting list orders. Each order can include up to 9 passengers, with the option to select 3 travel dates. This allows for up to 60 combinations of “train number + date,” and within each train number, multiple seating classes can be selected. The more train numbers chosen, the higher the success rate of getting a ticket from the waiting list.
The railway department will prioritize allocating returned, exchanged, or canceled tickets, as well as tickets for temporarily added trains, to passengers who have submitted waiting list requests. Choosing to accept newly added trains can further increase the probability of securing a ticket.
