On October 14th, a news report from Kuaikeji surfaced, drawing significant public attention to an incident where a Zeekr 001 was involved in a severe rear-end collision with a large truck on the highway. Remarkably, all occupants of the Zeekr 001 emerged unharmed.
Dashcam footage from the following vehicle shows that on October 3rd, the Zeekr 001 was driving normally in the right lane. As traffic ahead began to slow due to congestion, the dashcam vehicle decelerated, intending to allow the Zeekr 001 to change lanes and overtake. This maneuver, however, coincided with the unfortunate timing of the approaching large truck.
At this critical moment, the large truck behind was unable to brake in time, leading to a chain-reaction collision that impacted both the dashcam vehicle and the Zeekr 001. The force of the impact propelled the Zeekr 001 into the rear of a semi-trailer truck ahead, resulting in extensive damage to the electric vehicle.
Analysis of the post-accident vehicle damage reveals that the Zeekr 001 sustained severe destruction to its front and rear ends, with the rear completely torn apart. However, the passenger cabin remained largely intact, showing no significant deformation or structural compromise. Crucially, the battery pack did not experience thermal runaway, a critical safety concern in EV accidents.
According to information shared from the owner’s group chat, following the collision, the car doors were still able to operate automatically. While the driver’s side door was obstructed by debris, the owner was able to exit safely through the front passenger door. His mother, who was in the front passenger seat, and his nephew in the rear, also escaped without injury. This suggests a robust design in door mechanisms and overall cabin integrity.
As a direct consequence of this harrowing experience, the owner has now joined the “Zeekr Road Tank Club,” a testament to the vehicle’s remarkable performance under extreme stress. The owner expressed his profound gratitude for the safety engineering of the Zeekr 001, stating that he believed a different vehicle might not have offered the same level of protection. Demonstrating his trust and support, the owner has already placed an order for a 2026 model Zeekr 001.
