On November 4th, according to reports, the international server of “Taris World,” a dual-platform MMORPG developed by Beijing Ledong Zuoyue and published by Tencent, has officially ceased operations. The game’s domestic server had its public beta launch on June 12, 2024, followed by the international server’s launch on June 21st.
Surprisingly, the international server has shut down less than a year after its launch. Upon its release, “Taris World” topped the iOS free charts in 31 countries and regions. However, its momentum faded quickly, falling out of the global iOS game charts within two months of operation.
The cessation of the international server raises concerns about the domestic server’s prospects. “Taris World” launched its domestic server during the hiatus of “World of Warcraft” in China. The game strategically leveraged its highly similar designs in terms of professions, races, and voice acting, coupled with various marketing campaigns, in an attempt to attract “World of Warcraft” players.
However, with the return of “World of Warcraft’s” domestic server in August last year, “Taris World” experienced a significant user outflow. The official website for “Taris World” indicates that the domestic server has not released any official announcements or news for over six months, with the last event held during the Spring Festival this year.
The official Weibo account for “Taris World” last updated in February with revelations about a new season. In April of this year, a netizen commented, “Is the Weibo still being updated? Is the game going to shut down?”
Given these developments, it appears to be only a matter of time before the domestic server of “Taris World” faces a similar fate to its international counterpart.
