On November 5th, the General Office of the State Council released the notice on the arrangement of some holidays in 2026. Among them, the 2026 Spring Festival holiday will last for 9 consecutive days, becoming the “longest in history” Spring Festival.
The news immediately received praise from netizens.
The official notice stated that the Spring Festival holiday will be from February 15th (the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month, Sunday) to February 23rd (the seventh day of the first lunar month, Monday), for a total of 9 days. People will work on February 14th (Saturday) and February 28th (Saturday).
In response to this, Wang Qiyan, Senior Researcher at the Yangtze River Economic Belt Research Institute of Renmin University of China and Director of the Leisure Economy Research Center, stated in an interview that the current control over holiday length is relatively reasonable, striking a balance between meeting public demand and ensuring production. This arrangement is made in consideration of China’s current actual situation.
Wang Qiyan pointed out that this represents a transitional form, but this extension of the Spring Festival holiday can also be seen as an important policy experiment. If this adjusted model achieves good results, its experience may provide valuable reference for the optimization and adjustment of other holidays in the future.
