According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on July 23rd, as of the end of June, the total number of fixed internet broadband access users for the three major basic telecommunications enterprises reached 684 million. This represents a net increase of 14.26 million users compared to the end of the previous year. This sustained growth highlights the ongoing expansion of digital infrastructure across the country.
In terms of access speeds, users with 100Mbps and above fixed internet broadband access now number 651 million, accounting for an impressive 95.1% of the total user base. This indicates that high-speed broadband is firmly established as the mainstream offering, catering to the increasing demand for faster and more reliable internet connectivity. The widespread availability of 100Mbps and above connections is crucial for supporting modern digital activities, from streaming high-definition content to engaging in real-time online collaborations.
Notable is the significant growth in users with 1000Mbps and above access speeds. Over the course of just six months, this segment expanded to 226 million users, marking a net increase of 19.15 million from the end of the previous year. This surge in ultra-high-speed broadband adoption is a clear indicator of the market’s maturity and the successful deployment of advanced fiber optic technologies. The continuous investment in network upgrades is yielding tangible results, providing users with unprecedented internet speeds.
Users with 1000Mbps and above connections now represent 33% of the total user base, an increase of 2.1 percentage points from the end of the previous year. This upward trend signifies an accelerating pace in the popularization of high-speed broadband. The growing penetration of gigabit speeds reflects the increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive applications, such as virtual reality, cloud gaming, and advanced telemedicine, which require extremely low latency and high throughput. This trend is likely to continue as service providers further push the boundaries of network capabilities.
A regional breakdown of 1000Mbps and above fixed broadband access user penetration rates reveals a relatively even distribution across different geographical areas. As of the end of June, the penetration rates in the Eastern, Central, Western, and Northeastern regions were 33.2%, 33.3%, 34%, and 26.4% respectively. Compared to the end of the previous year, these figures saw increases of 2, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.8 percentage points, respectively. While the Central and Western regions show slightly higher growth in penetration, the Eastern and Central regions maintain the highest overall penetration rates, underscoring the concerted efforts to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to advanced broadband services nationwide.
