The controversy surrounding the collision between the Li Auto i8 and an 8-ton truck continues, at least from Dongfeng’s perspective.
Recently, Li Auto released a safety assessment video of a collision between its i8 and a truck. In the video, an 8-ton truck was seen airborne after being hit by the 2-ton Li Auto i8 SUV, with the truck’s cab also displaced. This incident sparked considerable discussion among netizens.
Yesterday, Lin Changbo, General Manager of Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd. (Dongfeng Liuzhou), reiterated his stance in an interview regarding the collision between the Li Auto i8 and a Chenglong truck. He stated, “At that brand launch event, they used our vehicle without our permission, including displaying our product logo, to carry out some marketing planning and promotion. This behavior has violated laws against unfair competition and advertising laws, and it actually constitutes false marketing. We are the victims. The results of these tests deviate significantly from public perception and natural laws.”
Lin Changbo further emphasized, “Dongfeng Liuzhou is a state-owned enterprise. In the face of such significant matters, we will firmly stand by the self-discipline of our entire industry, national requirements, and the perspective of promoting rational consideration of this issue within the entire industry. While others may be engaging in disparagement, we will not. We will not disparage others, nor will we join in such actions. We generally do not seek trouble, but if others provoke us, we will not shy away. Legally, we have been preserving all our litigation rights.”
From the perspective of this executive, trucks carry families, and approximately 70% of the nation’s logistics are completed by trucks. He stressed, “A truck is a truck, and a passenger car is a passenger car. Everyone should not treat safety as a trivial matter.”
Previously, Li Xiang, the founder of Li Auto, personally shared a toast with the driver of the Chenglong truck that transported the Li Auto i8. He expressed, “The previous collision test might have made some Chenglong users unhappy. It was perhaps a bit abrupt but unintended offense. Let’s have a toast; we won’t do this in reality. Safety always comes first.”
