As of September 24th this year, three ultra-high-definition (UHD) television channels have been launched. Beijing TV was the first to go live with its UHD channel on March 28th, followed by Guangdong TV and Shenzhen TV on June 28th.
It has been reported that Hunan TV, Dragon TV, Jiangsu TV, Zhejiang TV, and Shandong TV will launch their UHD channels on September 28th.
Zhejiang TV, in its official Weibo post, detailed how 4K UHD channels represent a comprehensive breakthrough across five key dimensions compared to regular HD channels:
– Resolution is upgraded from 1920*1080 to 3840*2160, which is four times that of HD.
– Frame rate is increased from 25 frames per second to 50 frames per second, allowing for the capture of complex movements and the presentation of more dynamic visual effects.
– The color gamut transitions from BT.709 to BT.2020, offering six times the color reproduction of HD.
– Quantization precision is enhanced from 8-bit to 10-bit, resulting in a more detailed representation of color brightness and quantity.
– High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology provides ten times the contrast ratio of HD, delivering deeper blacks and brighter whites.
Furthermore, the inclusion of immersive sound systems will significantly enhance the user experience, leading to a leap in viewing quality.
It is understood that the National Radio and Television Administration has designated 2025 as the “Ultra HD Development Year.” The launch of these five major satellite TV 4K UHD channels is a key outcome in implementing this strategic initiative.
