Apple has swiftly followed up the release of iOS 26.1 with the introduction of the iOS 26.2 Beta 1 developer preview. This significant update, expected to roll out to the public between December 9th and 16th, 2025, brings a host of enhancements aimed at refining the user experience and introducing new personalization options.
One of the most visually striking additions is the enhancement to the Lock Screen customization. Users can now choose a “Liquid Glass” effect for the clock display. This feature offers a slider that allows users to adjust the transparency and texture of the clock, offering a spectrum from near-total transparency to a frosted appearance. Additionally, a separate “Solid” toggle remains, which provides a more opaque display style while still supporting custom clock colors. This move suggests Apple’s continued emphasis on personalizing the iPhone’s most frequently viewed interface.
For those who prioritize their well-being, the Sleep Score feature has undergone significant adjustments. Apple has revised the scoring ranges to better reflect users’ perceived sleep quality post-rest. Notable changes include:
- Very Low: 0-40 (previously 0-29)
- Low: 41-60 (previously 30-49)
- OK: 61-80 (previously 50-69)
- High: 81-95 (previously 70-89)
- Very High: 96-100 (previously 90-100)
The scoring is calculated based on a comprehensive evaluation of sleep duration (50 points), bedtime consistency (30 points), and the number of nighttime interruptions (20 points), totaling 100 points. This data is viewable within the iPhone’s Health app and is compatible with all Apple Watch models supporting watchOS 26.2. This refinement indicates Apple’s commitment to providing more accurate and actionable insights into sleep patterns, underscoring the growing importance of health tracking features in modern smartphones.
In terms of security and convenience, the Passwords app sees an improvement in its “Settings” section. A new option has been added that allows users to manage websites where passwords are not saved upon login. This provides a more centralized control mechanism for password storage rules, enhancing user control over their online security and reducing the potential for unintended password storage.
Addressing regulatory requirements, the real-time translation feature for AirPods is now available in the European Union. Previously delayed due to compliance work with the Digital Markets Act, this highly anticipated feature is now accessible. Supported AirPods models include AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. The feature supports a range of languages, including English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Japanese, and Korean. This expansion signifies Apple’s efforts to ensure feature parity across global markets while adhering to evolving regulatory landscapes.
Enhancements to Accessibility and Safety are also included. Within Settings, under Accessibility, a new “Screen Flash” option has been added to Alert Tones. This complements the existing LED flash functionality, allowing users to choose between “Screen Flash Only” or “Screen + LED Flash” for alerts. Furthermore, “Enhanced Security Alerts” have been introduced in Settings under Notifications. This module enables users to manage earthquake and emergency threat alerts and offers the option to enable “Location-Optimized Alert Delivery,” which aims to improve the reliability and timeliness of critical alerts. These updates demonstrate Apple’s ongoing commitment to making its devices more inclusive and responsive in critical situations.
