Objectively speaking, BAIC Arcfox had not been among the core new forces in China and had rarely launched a hit car. However, since the beginning of this year, Arcfox has been on a roll, consecutively launching popular models such as the Arcfox Alpha T5 and Alpha S5, both of which have seen strong sales.
However, Arcfox’s biggest bestseller this year is undoubtedly the Arcfox T1. As an A0-class pure electric vehicle launched in mid-September this year, the Arcfox T1 achieved over 26,000 firm orders within 12 hours of its release, exceeding 35,000 units in less than a full month. In September, its first month, deliveries surpassed 10,000 units, reaching 11,096, making it the latest dark horse in China’s A0-class market.
The competition in the current A0-class market is not just fierce, it’s brutal. So, how is it that the Arcfox T1 has managed to break through so effortlessly? After test driving the vehicle, I found the answers to this question.
Design is Not a Compromise: Exquisite Details Inside and Out
Electric vehicles in the A0-class market are generally positioned for daily commuting. Considering the price factor, many car manufacturers set a tone of “practicality and cost reduction” from the outset of R&D and design, making it difficult for the vehicles to exhibit a sense of quality. However, this principle does not apply to the Arcfox T1. From the first glance, I was captivated by its exquisite exterior design. The贯穿式大灯 (through-type headlight) at the front has a very stylish design, complemented by the midnight grey body color and the blackened “ears” on both sides, making the entire vehicle look exceptionally refined and providing a visual experience that transcends its class. Young users will undoubtedly appreciate its high aesthetics. In China, a car’s appearance is often the primary deciding factor for many buyers. In terms of aesthetics, the Arcfox T1 certainly earns high marks, which is one of the key reasons for its strong sales right from launch.
The interior layout is equally simple and practical, with no complex lines or shapes. The entire series comes standard with a 15.6-inch central control screen and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument panel. The dashboard’s central trim and door panel trim are designed continuously, forming a wraparound technological cockpit. Compared to other new domestic models, while the styling may bear some resemblance due to industry trends, the Arcfox T1 surprises with its attention to detail and tactile quality. The Arcfox T1’s interior utilizes “Microcloud fiber velvet high-grade leather, similar to that used in million-yuan luxury cars.” The dashboard and door panels have a delicate and warm feel, unlike the typical soft-touch plastics found in other comparable models. The matte velvet finish also contributes to its premium visual appeal. Looking at the interior alone, it’s hard to believe this is a car priced in the 60,000 yuan range.
Regarding seats, which directly impact passenger comfort, the Arcfox T1 features cloud-feeling surround seats with ergonomic design and excellent support. The front seats offer intelligent ventilation, heating, and memory functions. The high-density, high-resilience seat foam combination boasts a rebound rate of over 60%. The softness of the rear seats, in particular, is likely superior to over 90% of cars on the market. Interested buyers should definitely experience how comfortable these seats are. Arcfox also offers a 10-year warranty against collapse and damage for the seats, though this will require validation from owners over time.
Furthermore, the Arcfox T1 offers a rare panoramic sky roof in its class. With an area of 2.34m², it is not only the largest in its class but also features a full-open electric sunshade that supports remote control via a mobile app and stepless adjustment. It’s not an exaggeration to say it’s even more impressive than Tesla’s panoramic sunroof.
A0-Class Body, A+ Class Driving and Riding Space
For A0-class consumers, interior space is another crucial selling point, as it directly impacts riding comfort and the vehicle’s versatility. In this regard, the Arcfox T1 also scores highly. The Arcfox T1 has a body length of 4337mm, but boasts a width of 1860mm and a wheelbase of 2770mm. The wheelbase and width data even surpass some A+ class vehicles, which is quite remarkable.
These generous dimensions translate into a real-world experience where, after adjusting the front driver’s seat, there are still about two fists of legroom in the rear. Such spacious legroom is rarely found in other A0-class electric vehicles. In terms of interior space utilization, the Arcfox T1 addresses the practical needs of families with its solutions. The vehicle offers a total of 32 storage compartments. The interior features a large hollow design and a spacious armrest box for easy storage of personal belongings. All four doors have storage pockets, and there are five hidden hooks inside, providing convenient places to store items like breakfast or drinks, which can often cause issues in other cars.
The Arcfox T1’s trunk has a total volume of 459L, capable of holding eight 20-inch suitcases. With the rear seats folded down, the maximum depth of the cargo space reaches 1950mm, with a volume of up to 1352L, capable of meeting storage needs for camping, travel, or moving. The trunk also comes with a bonus: lifting the trunk floor reveals a sunken storage space of 74L, which can be organized with dividers.
Moreover, with the rear seats folded completely flat, a support cushion can be added between the front and rear seats, transforming the interior into a mini camper bed, perfect for temporary overnight stays.
A Chassis with a German Feel, Decent Power and Range Performance
As an A0-class electric vehicle priced in the low 60,000 yuan range, one wouldn’t typically expect a high-quality chassis from the Arcfox T1. However, it continues to impress. With Arcfox’s years of experience learning from Magna, the Arcfox T1 exhibits no significant drag when starting or accelerating, which is common in electric vehicles. If the driving mode is set to custom and regenerative braking is turned off, it feels very similar to a conventional gasoline car, with no noticeable motor resistance, only pure mechanical friction. When driving at medium to high speeds, the chassis demonstrates noticeable resilience over potholes and uneven road surfaces, with no excessive bouncing. Even considering the trial car is brand new, the chassis feels remarkably tight and responsive, offering a driving dynamic comparable to that of a German B-segment car. Furthermore, this A0-class electric vehicle is equipped with rare 18-inch alloy wheels in its segment. With a slightly more aggressive driving style, it could easily be mistaken for an electric hot hatch by passersby.
In terms of range, the Arcfox T1 offers two options: 320km and 425km. With the heat pump air conditioning, it can achieve over 300km of range even in cold winter temperatures, making it possible to charge only once a week for city commuting. In real-world tests, the indicated range has proven to be quite accurate. On a route mostly consisting of elevated roads, the actual mileage was close to the indicated range, providing peace of mind for winter use.
Conclusion:
Overall, what impresses me most about the Arcfox T1 is its exceptional value for money. At a price of 62,800 yuan, it offers product competitiveness that surpasses its peers in terms of space, features, range, and overall quality. Compared to strong contenders in the current market like the Geely Xingyuan and BYD Dolphin, the Arcfox T1 possesses a distinct advantage as a latecomer. The impressive order numbers, with over 35,000 firm orders in less than a month and deliveries exceeding 10,000 units, are a testament to consumers recognizing its true worth.
